I've got them separated mostly by genre, but I do have two shelves dedicated to Blue-Underground and exploitation.

I keep all my movies in Movienizer
using filter I can sort them out by genre, year, alphabetically and specify where the dvd is located (all dvds I have are numbered acccordingly)
plus I get all the info about the movies, actors, incl. pictures, photos

I go by directors, so that a directors films are all together in a larger section that is made up of say asian films, or italian. There is also a section for slasher films that sort of turns into Carpenters films so they can be together.A series usually overides the directors together rule . Theres also sections for 50's american horror/sci fi, one for vincent price, one for universal classic monsters, etc. Well it makes sense to me, theres also a sections for australian films, zombies, coen bros, cronenberg, polanski, kubrick, hitchcock, you get the picture, oh yeah theres some unusual sections like ;killer doll movies!

I honestly have too many to organize...I try though, I have my Action movies on one whole DVD Shelf and then my Horror DVD's on another..My Comedy on another and then another for other Genre's.

I am thinking of splitting them up even more into like War movies and Westerns...Fantasy movies...Medeval movies and so forth... I have some in Alphabetical order and some in the order of the most famous actor/actress in the movie... I am taking suggestions on ways to do better though.... I also have 4 big book shelves with my VHS movies on it....Hard to organize them other than by genre.
