Very funny (not kidding)

I don't organize them. I just put them in a movie rack, and in a pile; I can still find what I'm looking for tho.

If it's a series of movies I put them in order, and they go by type so horror, comedy, action.

I've recently bumped into the freeware called Movienizer, it allows to organize movies by genres, year of release, by rating, etc. It has great search options and ability do download info + pics from the Internet. I'm going to use it further, seems to have many useful features.

Depends how many you have. If you have a lot. Sort them by Kids, Comedy, Random, Box Sets/Season Sets, Vhs, and Horror Movies.

Next organize them alphabetical order. Its a pain in the ass, but so worth it.

Mainly by genre, horror, action/crime/suspense, drama, comedy, western/war, sci fi, etc. But I do have a few shelves dedicated to Blue-underground DVDs and exploitation/sleaze flicks.

I have a system that makes sense to me but most people would probably find it scattered. They're sort of divided into groups on my shelves.

The first shelf is for what I think are the best and most important color horror films made from the late 1960's to today. So, of course I have: Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Phantasm, Hellraiser, Argento's films, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Black Christmas, The Evil Dead, Creepshow, An American Werewolf in London, Re-Animator, Peter Jackson's Bad Taste & Dead Alive, Scream, The Howling, The Silence of the Lambs, The Fly (1986), etc. The big ones. Now, the way I've got that organized is in 2 groups. One for DVD's that are copy-protected from recording onto VHS (Paramount, Universal, Criterion, 20th Century Fox, Buena Vista) and the other for DVD's that are not (MGM, some Warner Bros. and Sony/Columbia-TriStar, Anchor Bay, Elite, Image, Dark Sky/MPI, Blue Underground).

The 2nd shelf is for slightly lesser films put into basic genre groups. The first group is for Sci-Fi Horror hybrids like Gremlins, Squirm, Basket Case, Ghoulies, It's Alive, The Brood, Sisters, Street Trash, Frogs, etc. The other group is for all other sub-genres: monsters, killers, ghosts / supernatural. Like: The Company of Wolves, Wolfen, Vamp, I Madman, The Amityville Horror, Bones, etc.

The 3rd shelf is for super-cheapo DVD's, Asian horror movies, other copy-protected DVD's, and all my black & white and 1920's to 1960's horror movies. Like: Night of the Living Dead, The Bad Seed, William Castle movies, Roger Corman movies, The Phantom of the Opera, Village of the Damned & Children of the Damned, and a few others.

If you really want to know... here's where my OCD tendencies come out a little. First it's great writers (Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams); then box sets and series, from Dark Shadows to the X Files; the it's by director, alphabetically, usually with that director's film's in chronological order; after directors comes my Asian section -- I don't distinguish between nations, but after several favorite directors and series, I just go alphabetical; then I hit general horror, alphabetical; then various specialty sections, such as my cult section (including a section with all of John Waters' work except his very earliest); my Blaxploitation section (including Blacula and Scream, Blacula, Scream, plus all the Pam Grier movies); a nature strikes back section, with killer animals grouped together (there are quite a number of killer bee movies out there, but my favorite of this subgenre is Frogs); and finally my "guilty pleasures" section, aka trash, including everything from Dallas to The Sinful Dwarf.
I have too many DVDs.

Alphabetically. A Series of films are grouped based on the placing of the first made, and all in chronological order.

Why be sorry?? Do your own thing. Order is for those who cannot handle chaos!!! I keep mine in unalphabetical order and upside-down...and the chance that it may bother someone pleases me............

Alphabetically, with certain exceptions (such as all the Halloween films in chronological order so H20 would could after The Curse... even though H20 is before it alphabetically). Makes it easier to find a movie, and to see if anyone took a movie.

If you have walls and walls of movies, it makes sense to put them in alpha order; otherwise, you'd be there all day!

Another reason I don't have mine in any order is simply because I'm too lazy.
